Reps. Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Collin Peterson (D-MN), the co-chairs of the Congressional Lyme Disease Caucus, have created bipartisan legislation to deliver a new national strategy for Lyme disease, as well as strengthen the treatment and prevention of Lyme and other tick-borne diseases this past May (2020), for Lyme Disease Awareness Month.

Rep. Smith also offered an amendment which directs the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to investigate the possible involvement of the Department of Defense (DOD) biowarfare labs in the weaponization of Lyme disease in ticks and other insects from 1950-1975. The House passed the amendment On July 21, 2020.
